As seasons change, the needs of your hair and skin also change tremendously. One common mistake that we all tend make is that we don’t switch our products in accordance with the change in the weather. Especially in cities like New Delhi, Jaipur, we need to be more watchful of what we are exposing our hair and skin to.
Our Founder Ritu Deswal was recently featured in India’s leading publication DNA to talk about how to make sure that your makeup looks on point even during the monsoons.
We thought we’d share some insights on how to take care of your hair, skin and makeup this season.
HAIR
The one thing that gets impacted most visibly during monsoons is your hair. It’s definitely more frizzy, untamed and almost always looks unkempt. To help you with taming your frizzy mob of hair, always ALWAYS use a leave-in cream or a serum. Not only does it help control the frizz, it also adds the much-needed shine to your hair. Depending on your hair type, choose your product carefully. Curly hair should always opt for a slightly more thick hair cream versus thinning hair or straight hair should use a serum.
If you’re getting wet in the rain more often than you’d like, opt for a dry shampoo instead of a daily hair wash. We absolutely love the Wella dry shampoo that adds volume, bounce and makes you look like you’re fresh out of the shower. You can also keep the dry shampoo handy in your bag at all times.
Avoid straightening your hair or overusing heat styling products because the moisture in the air does not let your blow dry or straightening stay in place. Instead, let your hair be in its natural shape and enjoy its texture. Also, ensure that you’re getting a professional hair spa at least every three weeks to let your hair relax and regain its nutrients and shine. Style N Scissors offers attractive hair spa options in Jaipur for different hair types at very affordable rates.
SKIN
Sun’s in, sunscreens in the bin? The biggest mistake we do when it comes to our skin is not using an SPF sunscreen, especially when we think it’s cloudy. Even when the sky is overcast or you’re standing in the shade somewhere, the UV rays are damaging your skin! So it doesn’t matter whether it’s raining or not, slather on some sunscreen before you step out of the house.
The humidity in the weather does lead to extra sebum build-up on your skin and scalp. So use a light moisturizer that hydrates but doesn’t clog your pores. Also, the same humidity can trap dirt in your pores so keep wet- wipes handy to ensure that your face is clean at all times.
Spritz your skin with rose / lavender / tea-tree mist frequently to freshen damn, dull skin. The moisture in the air can make your skin look drab. Freshen it up with a hydrating and fragrant face mist. Also, NEVER delay that facial or cleanup. Style N Scissors exclusively offers Kama Ayurveda and Forest Essentials facials in Jaipur. Our spa facial treatments are designed keeping the changing weather in mind to ensure that your skin gets all the care that it needs. Find out more about Style N Scissors’ facial treatments here.
MAKEUP
Makeup during monsoons can be tricky. Always use water-proof and wash proof makeup, especially your kohl and mascara. Also, the humidity in the air can make your skin look oily and oxidized so use a matte foundation and set it well with a translucent powder. Also, prep your skin before you apply your makeup to increase its longevity. Don’t skimp on using a good sun-screen & primer. We find that hydrating serums work very well in monsoons as they moisturize and are super light!
Products that work in summers don’t necessarily work in monsoons for your skin so ensure that if you have dry skin and you use a dewy foundation in summer, get a matte poreless foundation for monsoons or your skin can look too oily and blotchy.
Also, always set your makeup using a setting spray so that heavy winds and downpour don’t dampen your look. Your bag essentials must include a dry compact to touch up, your trusted lipstick (preferably transfer-proof, liquid ones) and wet wipes to pat dry your skin if you do happen to get wet. Wet wipes are great to fix a little smudge here and there.
Also, never forget that less is more! Use lesser number of products but make sure that what you’re using is of good quality so that it stays longer on your skin without damaging it.
