Ladies, this is your ultimate makeup guide for your honeymoon. The last thing you want to do when you’re on your honeymoon is carrying a case full of makeup. Not only is it very impractical, it also may put off your partner. Also, with all the travelling, changing flights, different weather conditions, applying tons of makeup is not the brightest idea. Whether it’s an Italian summer or a white Christmas in the alps, your makeup needs to be practical, easy and shouldn’t take forever for application. I would also make sure that my products are multipurpose – like my lipstick would act as my blush as well as eye shadow. My bronzer will act as my eye shadow as well as contouring product.
So I’ve put together a list of makeup and beauty essentials that all you girls can carry in your vanity case that will help you sail through your honeymoon.
Moisturizer & sunscreen
Whether you’re going to a summery place or a wintry one – you need a solid moisturizer and sunscreen. Of course, you need something weather appropriate. I swear by Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizer that works for me all around the year. Sunscreen depends on your sun exposure during the trip. But anywhere between an SPF 30 to 75 should work for you.
Skincare – night time regimen
It’s very unlikely that you’ll have the time to look after your skin when you’re travelling. So make sure that when you retreat to your room, you pamper your skin so it rests through the night and is prepped in the morning. I love the Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair Serum and the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. Both are very effective to repair and restore your skin while you sleep.
Concealer
I would suggest that you skip the primer step (rather unnecessary when you travel) and use a trusted concealer like the Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer or the inexpensive Maybelline Fit Me Concealer. If you always feel the need for a primer, just rub an ice cube all over your face. This shrinks your pores, reduces redness and puffiness – all that a primer does and more.
Blush & lipstick
Skip the foundation step altogether because the heat outdoors, water sports, etc, can run it down making it a complete makeup disaster. From your concealer, move on to blush. I would skip carrying multiple products and instead carry multi-purpose products. I always double up my pinky, peachy lipsticks as my blush – far better than using powder blush. Lipsticks make for great blushes because of their creamy consistency and ability to easily blend. I would also carry only 2 lipsticks – one long lasting liquid lipstick and one hydrating one.
Highlighter
This is completely optional. I would use a very mild highlighter because you don’t need to sport a full glam face. In would also completely skip contouring for the same reason.
Bronzer
Instead of contouring, I would focus on using a bronzer from TheBalm that gives a subtle looking holiday tan and chiseled features.
Makeup Remover
If you’re carrying ALL THAT MAKEUP, please please please make sure you’re carrying a good makeup remover to take it all off in the night. I love the Bioderma or Garnier Micellar Water
Vaseline
This might seem weird to you but there is nothing more multi-functional than Vaseline – whether its chapped lips or glossy eye lids or even a highlighter, there are so many ingenious ways of using Vaseline. I would in fact leave my highlighter behind for the more natural finish that I can get from Vaseline (plus it’s so good for your skin
Eye makeup
A good kajal/kohl that’s longwearing and a small eye-shadow palette that has good mix of 4-5 colors – nude, pink & brown will set you through the trip although I would totally skip this. I would instead use my Kajal for a slightly smoky eye + my lipstick on my lids or my bronzer on my lids for a warmer look.
These seven to eight products are perfect for you to carry with you whenever you’re travelling. Hope you find these useful. Please leave your thoughts, favorite product suggestions and recommendations in the comments below! For more makeup tips tricks, visit our blog.
